Someday You Might.

Someday You Might
By: Miranda Byard (Me)

I find myself going back,
During times when I least expect to.
I fear my mind is forever clouded,
With the memories I have of you.

I hadn’t ever pictured things,
The way they are today.
I fought tooth and nail to keep you,
Tried to convince you to stay.

Nothing could prevent you,
From doing what you would.
Actions which caused controversy-
Undeniably misunderstood.

These things they would happen,
Day in and day out.
We’d fight and make up,
Forget what it was about.

And eventually it became so often,
We didn’t know why we were together.
We’d come to a mutual agreement,
Decided to throw away forever.

I never wanted this for us,
But looking ahead I thought I might.
Here I am 10 months later,
And you’re still the reason I write.

Your sweatshirt is still in my closet,
I’ve got your ring hidden away.
There are pictures in my dresser,
That I still look at every day.

And I know I can’t keep doing this,
Because it does nothing good.
I’ve been told to forget about you,
And I would if I could.

So I’ll sit here and feel sorry,
For myself and for you.
My heart is heavy with sorrow,
Because there’s nothing we can do.

And I hate to admit it,
But I still feel it in my chest.
You’re still that special person,
Who will always know me best.

I’ve been stuck here waiting,
To hear words you’ll never say.
Impatience pushed me forward,
To pave another way.

I picked myself up,
And dusted off the dirt.
Started walking away,
Pretending it didn’t hurt.

I fooled myself for a while,
Into thinking I’d be alright.
I had the help of one person,
Who held me close at night.

But I wasn’t getting better,
I started feeling much worse.
I’d accepted his lustful offer,
A form of ‘love’ so perverse.

An unhealthy relationship budded,
A replacement to my missing link,
Numbed the painful thought of you,
And helped me not to think.

It started out as one thing,
But soon became something else,
I knew he was trouble.
Influenza infecting good health.

He’d sleep and I’d wake,
Every day was the same.
Tomorrow’s pain would mirror today’s,
We’ve spent 10 months playing this game.

Walking on eggshells in the morning,
Sleeping on a bed of nails every night.
Playing pretend, wrong rules in mind,
All other concerns out of sight.

But I got tired of tiptoeing around,
I couldn’t hold my tongue anymore.
For too long I’d been hurting,
Crying alone behind closed doors.

And even then I couldn’t do it.
Couldn’t find it in me to tell him goodbye.
Instead we’d roll around in a bed full of tears,
And I couldn’t tell you why.

Every time I felt alone,
He’s who I decided to go to.
But every night I spent with him,
I was reminded of you.

It’s always back and forth,
He loves me, he loves me not.
Just last night we fought,
And then I gave him all I’ve got.

Desperate words left my mouth,
Just as our eyes did meet.
My heart beat faster,
Than the cars on my street.

“I can be whatever you want”
I whispered between clenched teeth.
But he couldn’t even look at me,
Eyes fixed on the ground beneath.

The silence between us,
Forced another mouthful of lies.
“We can just be friends then,
I’ve felt nothing this whole time”

And all I got from him,
Were three short words and a half glance.
“Meet me upstairs.”
This was my chance.

I was praying he’d believe me,
Hoping he’d be the one to give in.
But I couldn’t keep him waiting any longer,
So I went inside and let him win.

My stomach was in knots,
When he made his way to the door.
And the tears started flowing,
He’d left and I couldn’t hold it in anymore.

I cried so hard,
For the love I wanted so bad.
I awoke to tear stained pillows,
Makeshift sponges, soaking up the sad.

And in the mirror the next morning,
A mascara streaked face stares back.
A reminder of failed attempts,
And hurt feelings make their attack.

All over again the pain returns,
My red eyes rim with tears too wet.
Now I’m choking on my feelings,
Wishing him and I had never met.

It began as an innocent crush,
Now I’m feeling a self-inflicted burn,
Because crash after crash,
I still haven’t learned.

Eventually I’ll get smart,
And I’ll find the courage it will take,
To turn my back on this mess,
And stop this heartache.

When I finally force myself forward,
One foot after the other,
I’ll continue this journey,
Searching for another.

And even then,
Not much will change.
I’ll still look at our pictures,
And cry out your name.

I’ll relive our memories,
Day after day.
Trying to forget all the words,
That at one time you did say.

I’ll still see your face,
In strangers on the street.
I’ll still be picking up the pieces,
Of promises you could still decide to keep.

And at the end of each day,
I’ll turn out the lights.
I’ll be hoping and praying,
That someday you might.

12. I am thankful for...

Today I want to talk about how thankful I am for my ability to write and appreciate Poetry.
In honor of my awesome poetry writing skills, today I will be featuring one of my favorite poems. Enjoy! (o:

A Year Has Gone
A poem by me. Written 1/23/11

Twelve months have come,
A year has gone.
It's been three hundred sixty five days,
Fifty two weeks too long.

Four seasons have passed,
Roughly 60 days in each one
And all this time that's gone by,
I've been thinking about what I've done.

Pulled you in,
Then pushed you away,
Gave me your heart,
And I threw it away.

January, February,
March, April, May.
I'd been counting,
Counting down the days.

Memories stopping me,
Every chance they'd get.
Reminding me daily,
Of everything since we'd met.

There are too many things,
Too many I couldn't forget.
You know something's wrong,
When you're holding onto things that make you upset.

I felt nothing in January,
That was the start.
Tried not to think of you,
Tried to be smart.

But that didn't matter,
February throbbed my heart.
My 16th birthday,
One in which you'd have no part.

March came along,
It marked month three.
And just a few years back,
This was the month you met me.

And soon it was April,
I'll try to explain.
Baseball season,
This was your game.

And not only that,
But a new striking pain,
I lost something I always wanted you to have,
April brought much rain.

But no flowers in May,
At least not for me.
Don't think I forgot the sixth.
The day you turned eighteen.

Then there was graduation,
Which I did actually see.
I regret not paying attention,
To the whole class of 2010 being set free.

And June takes me back,
To when 'Leavin'" was on top.
When I'd lay on my mom's balcony,
And we'd talk all night, nonstop.

Before I knew it July had come,
Soon the temperature would start to drop.
You announced you'd be attending pellston,
We made plans to meet in Mackinaw at my shop.

August I spent thinking,
Thinking too much.
I hadn't seen you all summer,
8 months since January when we lost touch.

When school started in September,
That's when I started to lose it all.
Memories were killing me,
Every time I went down the senior hall.

I had dreams in October,
Dreams all of you.
One every night,
Each time they were new.

November was the worst,
I remember when we started dating.
But I'd cry myself to sleep,
Because our memories were fading.

A cold walk on the beach with you,
I wish I'd never see anything more.
Because December was drawing near,
And soon I'd end up starting a war.

Finally December,
The end of twenty-ten.
You'd think I'd have forgotten you,
After all, eleven months it had been.

But all I could do,
Was thing back in time.
As Taylor Swift has it,
I could only "wish I realized what I had when you were mine."

I missed you like crazy,
I started asking around.
I wanted to know,
Was I the only one counting down?

Finally January 19th,
A whole year had gone.
Three hundred sixty five days.
Fifty two weeks too long.

I sent the message,
One day later got one back.
Found out some things never change,
And that's where we're at.

Someday in the Future.

Someday in the Future
a poem written by me.
10/1/12
Summer had come and gone,
Before I could look to see where it was going.
Pieces left behind were part of a bigger picture,
But I had no way of knowing.

What was to come?
What was in store?
I knew it was time to move forward;
Time to choose a new door.

But we never really know,
What the future is holding.
Sometimes we aim to predict it,
Based on how the past has been unfolding.

The past has never looked darker,
But to get better it has to be bad first.
There’s comfort in knowing that.
And three weeks ago things were at their worst.

A week after it all happened,
Your message came through.
It was unexpected as always,
Completely out of the blue.

I quit what I was doing,
And pulled my phone out to take a peek.
I was expecting a pitiful message from him,
After all, it had only been one week.

But when I looked down,
My heart rate burst through the roof.
I was so happy:
To tell the honest-to-God truth.

You wanted to know if I’d like to hang out.
And I didn’t know what to say.
The timing was oddly convenient,
I didn’t have time to think all day.

I wanted to really think it over.
Just like you know I always do.
But I didn’t have sufficient time to decide.
What I should say to you.

I reviewed each of my choices quickly,
However I remained as stagnant as ever.
But time was ticking.
It was now or never.

Spontaneity won me over,
I promised myself I wouldn’t go through it again.
After that night I couldn’t help feeling like,
This time would be different from back then.

It wasn’t until I got out of my car,
that I realized how bad my hands were shaking.
And it wasn’t until after our dinner.
That I was excited for the plans we were making.

That night I made a decision,
I decided I was done turning away.
It was September 15th.
I made up my mind that day.

And you had no idea.
You probably still don’t.
I’m sure you probably think this is temporary-
That I’ll stop talking, but I won’t.

I keep imagining you in my life,
There’s nothing I want more.
I’m truly sorry,
I didn’t realize it before.

All this time we tried to keep each other out
But kept finding our way back in.
There’s nothing we can do.
It’s time to give in.

Just four days later,
We were seeing each other again.
That night we made further plans,
I could hardly wait until then.

Friday September twenty first,
You took me to the Perry Hotel.
I had such a nice time that night.
You really made my heart swell.

You picked me up,
You drove us there,
And I loved every second of it.
It’s true, I swear.

You opened my door,
You helped me out and held my hand.
And you gave me a piggy back ride,
When I couldn’t stand.

You paid for yet another dinner,
And a movie that night too.
And you don’t know how nice that is…
But I do.

You dropped me off that night,
And we said goodbye.
I thought of the upcoming 17 days without you.
And let out an internal sigh.

Seconds after our hug,
The clock read 10:42.
I glanced up with a big smile,
And you grinned too.

The next thing I knew,
You were driving away.
Something wasn’t right.
It felt weird to end this way.

Not even five minutes later,
A message came through.
“Can I come back and see you for a minute?”
Of course I wanted you to.

I stood in the light of a street lamp,
I could barely contain myself when you pulled in.
I lost track of time when you took my hands,
I don’t know how long it’d been.

But you came with an explanation,
About why you’d come back so suddenly.
17 days was too long to think about,
How you didn’t, but should have kissed me.

You finished your sentence and pulled me in,
And for a very brief few seconds our lips met.
And everything about that short time,
I still have yet to forget.

Feeling fuzzy all over,
I walked back inside.
I couldn’t stop smiling.
Not even if I tried.

But then once I realized,
That three weeks must go by,
I wasn’t sure I could not see you.
But I decided I would try.

It’s been 11 days so far,
And I’m doing okay.
Hearing your voice every night,
Is what I look forward to during the day.

And every single night,
Just as we end the conversation.
I want to whisper, ‘I love you.’
But something causes my hesitation.

But this Friday I hope,
We can see each other once more.
An adventure to Tahquamenon Falls:
Date number four.

And It’s hard to say,
It’s hard to be sure.
If by that time,
You could be more.

More than some guy,
More than a friend.
More than what you were,
Way back when.

But we never really know,
What the future is holding.
I’m trying to predict it,
Based on how our time together has been unfolding.

If I know one thing for sure,
It’s that time will continue to go.
And what’s in the picture we’re painting,
Someday in the future we’ll know.

Old Scars Become New.

Wasted time,
shattered hearts.
Two lost souls,
in the dark.

One problem,
with no solution.
Two individuals,
searching for resolution.

Answers burried,
deep down inside.
But I can't dig deep enough.
Trust me. I've tried.

I have secrets,
I don't even know what they are.
It's better that way,
we don't need more scars.

Better to forget each other now,
than to hold on.
It's too hard;
time to move on.

But time always lapses,
old scars become new.
You keep slicing, but,
my blood is still red, not blue.

My mind won't change,
no matter how long you stay.
We need to base life on tomorrow,
not the choices of yesterday.

I wish there was a way,
if I knew how to,
I'd tell you my reasons,
why I did what I had to do.

You'd never understand,
even if I could explain.
You couldn't handle it;
the pure truth, that's pain.

It makes no sense,
but that's life.
So I'll ask one more time:
put down your knife.

Please leave me be;
our old scars unsliced.
Accept my answer this time,
& move on with your life.

Don't Change You, Just Change Your Actions.

This is my first poem I've posted on here. I absolutely love poetry. And I think I'm pretty good at writing my own poems. I hope you enjoy. Here's a poem I wrote not too long ago (actually about 4 months ago) when Garret and I weren't doing so well. March 29th is the year and a half mark for us. I'm happy to say we're still together even after this.

Don't Change You, Just Change Your Actions.

I've been looking forward,
Because I never want to be running back.
Searching for an unopened door,
In a place that's pitch black.

I don't want to miss anything,
I don't want to move too fast.
Let's enjoy the present,
And remember the past.

One of our distant memories,
A few weeks before tonight.
I was in the car crying,
You held me and said it would be alright.

I had been worrying,
Trying to figure things out.
Too much on my mind,
I was starting to doubt...

You held me in your arms,
Took my face in your hands.
Kissed me like you meant it,
And reminded me of our plans.

First you said, "I love you."
And I'm never supposed to forget it.
You told me this is real,
And you've got 100% to commit.

You looked me in the eyes,
And said, "I'm not messing around."
You were more serious than I had once though.
That is...until now.

We're two steps from the edge,
Ten steps too near.
Things are crumbling quickly,
This is what I had feared.

I never wanted this for us,
But if you continue to  leave me with no choice,
Know that I'll always love you,
And I'll miss the sound of your voice.

I'll miss the good things,
And I'll remember too much.
Like your amazing sunflower eyes,
September 29th,  and such.

The first time we met,
All our other "first" things.
Our very first date.
At Buffalo Wild Wings.

Our very first picture,
I believe we were bowling.
Along with all the other memories captured,
Christmas, summer break, and camping.

Fourteen months,
Cut short by 10 days.
It was the little things,
That made and ruined us in a way.

And the little things are what I'll remember,
What I'll hold closest to my heart.
The little things that brought us together,
And are tearing us apart.

I can remember,
When we jumped in the lake.
Your crazy idea,
In the beginning of May.

We went hunting,
For mushrooms once too.
Found eight on our way back to the car,
I had four and you did too.

Nights after work,
In Mackinaw City.
Went down to the Marina,
Lights lit up so pretty.

Prom was amazing,
A truly beautiful night.
My first corsage,
Trying to get your boutonniere on right.

Jelly beans from Olesons,
And playing Super Mario.
Picking me up from school,
And driving me home.

July 31st,
Sometime around midnight.
A ring slipped on my finger
A smile brighter than all the stars that night.

There's so much I'll never forget,
So much I'll have to let go.
There are so many things,
I want you to know.

The letters I wrote you,
The cards you recieved.
Everything written,
I hope you believed.

I meant everything I said,
And I'd say it all again.
It's just as true now,
As it was back then.

And it breaks my heart,
Because I wanted nothing more.
We can still make things work,
But you're not trying anymore.

You always say you're sorry,
You'll stop or start, and that you'll change.
I've given you so many chances...
Nothing in return is not an equal exchange.

What happened to the big picture?
The future we'd planned.
If your feelings haven't changed,
Why is this happening, I don't understand.

I want to make this last,
I want you in my life.
You be my husband,
I'll be your wife.

Just like we talked about,
All those times before.
When we were happy with eachother,
And we wanted nothing more.

I'm reaching out,
This is the last time I'm asking.
Don't change you.
Just change your actions.

Keep your promises,
Gain back my trust.
Never lie to me-
Honesty is a must.

Show me respect,
Like a man should.
And love me...
Like you said you would.

We're nothing without eachother.
You know it as well as I do.
Please use this last chance,
Don't make me regret giving it to you.

I've been hanging on,
I'll continue to as long as I can.
I'll never be able to forgive myself,
If you leave me with no choice but to ruin our life long plans...
